2021 Award-Winning Remodels from MSK Design Build

Gorgeous Danville Open Plan Kitchen Remodel, Winner, 2021 Residential Interior Over $500,000

Who doesn’t love the chance to transform a dark, drab kitchen into a light, airy kitchen that’s both easy to clean and fun for two cooks to use at once?

We started by getting rid of the dated wood cabinetry, awkwardly-placed butler’s pantry, and old-fashioned lighting fixtures. Relocating a shear wall allowed us to add symmetry to the kitchen and to create space for a floor-to-ceiling wine fridge and a modernized dry bar area.

We added white Crystal cabinets and gorgeous backsplash tile in a whimsical white and grey pattern, as well as a large island featuring a Cambria polished white quartz countertop and Ceaserstone grey polished quartz perimeter countertops.

Three beautiful pendant lights, brand new appliances and a shift of space that allows the kitchen area to flow seamlessly into the eating area and family room created a spot where this family of four now absolutely loves spending time together.

Dramatic Powder Room: Winner, the 2021 Residential Bath Under $25,000 Award

We were excited to create a bathroom with a “wow” factor for return clients of ours who have a gorgeous home featuring dramatic views of the Mount Diablo Hills.

We started with a very modest, awkwardly-angled, ho-hum space.

We transformed it by straightening the wall and bumping it into a non-load bearing linen closet to make a little room.

We then added a fabulous concrete and steel floating vanity from Native Trails that gives this bath a dynamic focal point. We used large-format porcelain tile with muted jewel tones and a floor-to-ceiling mirror to create a backdrop for the vanity, then complimented the modern feel with a wall-mounted Graff faucet in polished nickel. This brought out the warm tones in the tile and the countertop.

We then finished it all off with gorgeous sconces with rippled glass nestled in polished nickel, a muted aubergine paint color on the walls, and a soft grey paint on the ceiling.

The Knock-Out Hall Bath, Winner, 2021 Residential Bath $75,001 to $100,000

We enjoyed this project because we got to create a modern, spa-like space for a lovely couple who own a beautiful home in Mount Diablo Hills. This was a challenging project that required us to completely gut the space.

The original room was a mess of awkward angles that made the bathroom feel closed off and disjointed. The fixtures were dated and the space was dark and cramped. There was a linen closet, but the functionality was limited.

After we pulled everything out we added a gorgeous, free-standing white stone tub centered on the back wall, which features a tall, narrow window. This creates an asymmetrical juxtaposition to the large, rectangular space. We combined the neutral tiles with a flat pebble floor beneath the tub, allowing us to create a highly organic feel that complimented the view to the exterior courtyard. We also added a floating maple vanity with a soft gray glaze, adding richness to the warm wood.
