The MSK Design Build Team

Scott Westby

Scott Westby, President, Owner

After graduating with a JD and MBA from the University of Oregon, Scott worked in the field of law, first in corporate law and then in construction law. But he always loved to build. “My dad is a builder/remodeler, and my brother also has a construction company back in North Dakota. I started helping my dad when I was old enough to pick up nails, and I worked in numerous areas of residential and commercial construction. After years of practicing law, I decided to get back to building, and opened MSK Design Build in 2001.”

Scott has a great eye for architectural detail, a talent for overcoming design challenges, and provides innovative design solutions where others have not. He has a vision for what can be done in a home and the ability to bring that vision to reality.  A member of building trade associations, Scott and the team have won 17 awards for design and contracting since 2006. When he’s not working, Scott enjoys reading, golf, skiing, biking, and hanging out with his wife Kat and their twin daughters.

Kat Mullen

Kat Mullen, Vice President, Owner

Following a career as a special educator in NYC and many years as a sales executive in the shipping industry, Kat jumped ship for the design build industry. She joined Scott at the company in 2011 and finds owning an award winning design build firm creative and very satisfying. Asked how she likes the industry, Kat says “Leveraging skills from 25 years in the corporate world to owning and running our own creative business allows us to bring professionalism, integrity and heart to our work. We love what we do, and it shows in our work.”

Kat enjoys the creative and dynamic nature of the business, the wonderful clients with whom she collaborates, the great team at MSK, and the satisfaction derived from seeing clients thrilled with their beautifully transformed homes. Kat and Scott married in 2014 and have beautiful twin daughters. Freetime is spent reading, doing yoga, hiking, golfing and spending time with family and friends.

His calm demeanor makes organizing all aspects of a remodel look easy–it’s not.

Dom Dinatale

Dom Dinatale, Lead Painter

Dom Dinatale has been painting for 25 years, on both commercial and residential projects. He got into it accidentally, (as many of us do!) and he loves it. The instant gratification of taking the ugly and making it beautiful pleases him. Dom grew up in Livermore and lived his whole life in the East Bay, which he proudly calls home.  Dom and his wife Leslie love spending time with their 5 and 8-year-old kids, be it hiking, biking or hitting the museum and local zoos.

Christopher Vasilakos

Christopher Vasilakos, Carpenter

Born and raised in Menlo Park, Christopher relocated to the East Bay two years ago with his wife Emily and children Keira and Christopher Junior. And we won’t forget his two fur babies! Christopher grew up on construction sites, with both his father and grandfather having been contractors. He first entered the trades doing framing and foundation work, graduated to electrical and plumbing, and finally learned finished carpentry from a master. Christopher is very good at what he does. Christopher loves the outdoors, and spends his weekends working on his house and his woodshop.

In his off hours, Ramon and his wife Martha enjoy time with their 4 yr old son Junior and 6 yr old daughter Isabella. The family loves trail bike riding, and enjoy game nights at home. What are the favorites?  Twister, Monopoly and Uno. We look forward to may years working with Ramon.

Jorge Mora

Jorge Mora, Painter

Jorge Mora recently joined our team as a painter. He has six years experience in both commercial and residential painting in the Bay Area. Jorge is originally from Fairfield, CA where he currently lives close to many of his family members. (Lucky guy!) Jorge has an extensive shoe collection and identifies himself as a sneakerhead. When not adding to his collection, he loves spending time with his family outdoors, sharing meals and watching football. And if you are wondering, he is a 49ers fan!

They wanted to make it our home for us, and that made it really really special!
