We started with a large Danville, CA kitchen that had dated wood cabinetry, old-fashioned iron fixtures and lighting, and an awkwardly placed butler’s pantry. We worked with our clients to create a bright, spacious, and family-friendly kitchen that flowed directly to a large dining area and huge family room with a fireplace. This client had excellent taste and a clear vision of what he wanted the space to look like and how it would bring the family together. We began by relocating a shear wall, to add symmetry to the kitchen and to create space for a floor-to-ceiling wine fridge and a more modern and spacious dry bar area. We refinished the walnut floors, which contrasted beautifully with the white Crystal cabinets, and gorgeous backsplash tile, which is a whimsical white and grey pattern. The large island features a Cambria polished white quartz countertop, while the perimeter cabinetry features a Caesarstone grey polished quartz countertop.
We created coffered ceilings throughout the kitchen and family room and highlighted the island with three beautiful pendant lights. The appliances were a mixture of SubZero, Miele, Thermador, and Fisher Paykel, with a SubZero Integrated wine storage. The kitchen is easy to cook in, the kids sit at the island, and the family has a choice of dining at the big kitchen table or more casually at the island. The room is full of light and spacious enough for cooking for and entertaining large groups, and the grey and white palette works beautifully with the warmth of the walnut hardwood floors.
