President, Owner: Scott Westby, JD, MBA

”We are very impressed with your company, Scott, and thank you for your part in making our remodel a success.”– Rob and Karen C., Danville

After graduating with a JD and MBA from the University of Oregon, Scott worked in the field of law, first in corporate law and then in construction law. But he always loved to build. “My grandfathers were a plumber and a construction superintendent and my grandmother helped build Liberty ships (she was great with a cutting torch!)  My dad is a builder/remodeler, and my brother also has a construction company back in North Dakota. I started helping my dad when I was old enough to pick up nails, and my first job was working for a production framing company. I went on to work in all areas of commercial building and residential remodeling. After many years of practicing law, I decided to get back to building, and so I opened MSK Design Build.”

Scott has a great eye for architectural detail, a talent for overcoming design challenges, and provides innovative design solutions where others have failed. He has a vision for what can be done in a home and the ability to bring that vision to reality.

Beside his university degrees, Scott has taken numerous courses in building inspection, code, construction management, and kitchen & bath design. Active in building trade associations, Scott and the team have won 13 awards for design and contracting since 2006.

When he’s not working, Scott enjoys reading, golf, skiing, biking, and hanging out with his wife Kat and their twin daughters.

Vice President, Owner: Kat Mullen, BA

“After interviewing several companies, my husband and I chose MSK Design Build for our kitchen remodel and we could not be happier with the results. MSK made the often stressful and always inconvenient process of remodeling as close to painless as possible… Every person we dealt with throughout the process was professional, courteous, and knowledgeable in their field… they are a superior company in every sense and I have recommended them to friends and family. Most importantly, we have our dream kitchen built with quality, high-end products that not only look elegant, but will last for years to come.”  J. B, Walnut Creek, CA

Following a career as a special educator in NYC and 25 years as a sales executive in the shipping industry, Kat jumped ship for the design build industry. She joined the company in 2011 and enjoys utilizing her corporate skills in a small business. Working with the team, a new company name and logo was created, and MSK moved to  new design offices. Having launched a new website and an interactive software program for client use, Kat is thoroughly enjoying the career change. Asked how she likes the industry, Kat says “Business is business. The principles don’t change whether you are selling space, or designing and building it.” She loves the creative and dynamic nature of the business, the wonderful clients with whom she collaborates, the great team at MSK, and the beautiful finished homes MSK creates. Kat and Scott married in 2014 after 6 happy years together. When not busy with the family, Kat loves pretty much any outdoor sport and hits the hiking trails or yoga mat regularly.
