The homeowners of this lovely Dana Hills home in Clayton, California wanted an arts and crafts kitchen, a stacked stone accent wall, and rustic beams. They also wanted all new wood flooring in the kitchen, family room, hallway, and dining room. They wanted to raise the dropped ceiling in the kitchen, update all the amenities, and create a small pass-through from the kitchen to the artist’s studio. Significant electrical work was also needed in the kitchen and family room.
We integrated the kitchen and family room by using beautiful quarter-sawn white oak cabinetry in both rooms. The u-shaped kitchen featured inset cabinets with Shaker doors and beautifully detailed Craftsman-style molding. This Craftsman style was carried throughout the kitchen, with wrought-iron finial hinges and cabinetry pulls, as well as Craftsman pendants over the peninsula. The countertops in the kitchen were warm, earthy granite. The family room featured a large custom entertainment center of the same white oak cabinetry, and the granite continued onto the entertainment center. The outer cabinets on the entertainment center had custom speaker cloth, while the solid door inner cabinets housed the audio components.
Our clients chose a unique rustic beam and restored it themselves, which we installed between the kitchen and family room. This complemented the stacked stone accent wall which ran all the way up to the vaulted ceiling in the family room. Wide plank natural red oak floors were an elegant touch. Finally, tile flooring was installed in the laundry room and powder room, making this home remodel complete!
