Our clients moved here from Hawaii to be close to their grandchildren. Their Hawaiian kitchen was large with a lot of storage. They wanted their new kitchen to be a large, bright, welcoming, open-plan kitchen and were willing to eliminate the dining room to gain the extra space. The existing kitchen was small with dark cabinetry and a ceiling soffit so we removed two weight-bearing walls and the ceiling soffit to enlarge the room significantly. We removed a large glass door to the side yard that had no attractive view, which allowed us to expand the cabinetry, and create a pantry with rollouts. At the other end of the kitchen, we also created a walk-in pantry for extra storage. White-painted Shaker cabinets were chosen for the perimeter cabinetry, while a bold nautical blue, which our clients love, was the choice for the large center island. A beautiful Caesarstone white quartz with blue veining was chosen for both the countertop and the backsplash, giving the room a luxurious finish. Matching brushed nickel pendants grace the island, and brushed nickel cabinetry hardware completes the look. As coffee and wine lovers, we installed a built-in direct water Miele coffee machine and a Thermador wine fridge. A beautiful Benjamin Moore White Sand wall color kept the focus on the blue and white decor. A simple European Oak flooring was chosen to keep the room bright and contemporary. And voila – an open plan kitchen, perfect for family gatherings!
